Why home ventilation is important

We spend most of our lives inside—up to 90 percent in fact, according to an EPA study. And because these buildings are better sealed than they used to be, it also means contaminants can build up. 1. Volatile organic compounds (VOCs). These chemicals are found in everyday household products, like furniture, flooring, paint and cleaning products. Prolonged concentration can cause respiratory inflammation and headaches.
2. Dust, mold and pet dander. These are the some of the largest, most common indoor pollution sources. They can worsen allergies and asthma, especially pets with long, dense fur.
3. Carbon monoxide. This colorless, odorless, tasteless gas is caused by the process of combustion in a natural gas appliance. CO poisoning can cause flu-like symptoms and can kill you.
