When to Replace Your Water Heater

Is it time to replace your water heater? Service Experts Heating, Air Conditioning & Plumbing is here with a couple signals to look for when choosing whether it’s time to buy a new water heating system.

Age

If your water heater has routine maintenance, you can expect it to operate around 10 years, depending on the number of occupants in a home. When your water heater is 10 years, it’s likely time to seriously discuss replacement, especially before a leak happens.

Rusty Water

If the water from your water heater (hot side pipes) is coming out rusty, it may be an indicator that your water heater is rusting on the inside. This could cause a leak, not to mention contaminated water. Ask an expert plumber to have them determine if your water heater system is getting ready to give out.

Weird Noises

Booming or banging sounds coming from your water heater can be a signal that residue has built up on the foundation of the tank. This means your water heating system will be less efficient and will require more gas or electricity to heat your water, creating higher water heating bills. It also means that the additional time spent heating your water could cause more damage on your tank, leading to cracks or leaks.

Water

If you discover water around your water heater tank, you might have a leak. Call an expert plumber to come out and examine your equipment and they can supply you a quote on a new water heater if necessary.
